Derrick N. Terry is a special educator, math teacher, public relations professional, coach, mentor, and author who has always had a passion for education. Born into a military family, Derrick is originally from Birmingham, Alabama and has resided in Maryland for over 30 years. Derrick received his professional teaching endorsements in special education from the Virginia Department of Education and the Maryland State Department of Education. He has a Masters of Arts in Mass Communication (concentration in Public Relations) and Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications from Towson University as well as an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Information Management from the Community College of the Air Force. Derrick is also an adjunct professor at Trinity Washington University and worked in the local government sector before changing his career path to a special educator with over 18 years in the secondary and higher education arena.
Derrick has been active in his community as a coach, mentor, and community advocate. He is a member and former President/Vice-President of Sigma Alpha Lambda Chapter, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., former President of Sigma Alpha Lambda Foundation, Inc., as well as Treasurer for Light the Way Mentoring Program to name few. He has mentored over 100 young men, assisted with providing $19k to 17 Southern Maryland high school seniors to further their education, and facilitated numerous college tours.
He currently resides in Maryland with his wife and two children.
